Don Rosa, considered by many to be the greatest duck cartoonist of them all, is retiring. According to an interview I read, which I unfortunately can't get a hold of at the moment, Rosa stated that he will be retiring for three reason. One is that his eyesight is not what it used to be, and he has undergone eye surgery during the year. Another is that being a duck cartoonist doesn't pay very well. The third reason is that there have been repeated issues with copyright/royalties with international publishers. For any fan of Donald Duck, Uncle Scrooge, or Disney comics in general, this is very sad news Rosa is in my humble opinion the best cartoonist to ever work for Disney (Barks invented more, but Rosa is the better storyteller IMO) and his work include stories like "the Complete Life and Times of Scrooge McDuck" (considered a masterpiece by most), the stories about the Black Knight (glorp!), "A Matter of Some Gravity" and many, many others. Here's to hoping he will make one final "farewell" story, and that his stories will continue to be published for many, many years to come!

That is really sad to hear... For such a great cartoonist, Disney should be ashamed that they don't pay him more.
I really want more Duck comics in my collection.

Awww. Shame I never got to see more of his work! From what I have seen, he does some great work. I'm sure he'll be greatly missed in his work. I can uncerstand why he'd retire, though.

He really does do great work! Not only does he have a very unique style of drawing, his stories are full of funny background events and historical facts. There are several that I've read and thought to myself "This would make an awesome movie!" I think they are releasing, or have released, many of his comics in hardback in the US. I know "The Life and Times of Scrooge McDuck" has been released, and I believe there are some other stories out there available for purchase. They are available for reading online as well, but I don't know if they're still up on official sites (making it legal) or not.
I'm really happy that we have the "Hall of Fame" series here. So far 7 out of 24 editions have been Don Rosa. Pure awesomeness!
