In our next movie spotlight, Disney combined three of his popular "Disneyland" episodes featuring Davy Crockett in one feature film. The story begins with Davy Crockett, the Indian Fighter. He tracks down Red Stick, but instead of killing him, he "grins him to death" and the two become friends. He then helps a town get rid of a notorious outlaw. He is encouraged to run for the Tennessee Congress. Andrew Jackson convinces him to run for United States Congress. Once elected, he travels around the country speaking to the people, while the newly elected President Andrew Jackson uses his absence from Congress to ram through a bill which would take land away from the Indians. Crockett returns to Congress to vote on the bill and then resigns. He decides to head to Texas where Jim Bowie and William Travis are stationed at the Alamo. As Crockett arrives, so does Santa Ana with the Mexican Army. When the Mexican Army storms the Alamo, we see one final picture of Davy Crockett fighting to the end, as we are reminded that his spirit lives on.

I don't know of many Disney films that have affected the world quite as much as this film. Whether it was the episodes of "Disneyland" or the film itself, Davy Crockett sparked a global fascination with the legend of this man. From coonskin caps to the lively ballad, this American hero really does live on. You can even hear the ballad sung in the Country Bear Jamboree attraction.
