"I wouldn't be happy if I missed out on this experience [working at the Disney Studio]."
Our spotlight now falls on probably the most noted Disney animator in Disney history. Frank Thomas was born on September 5, 1912. He was hired as an animator for The Walt Disney Studios on September 24, 1934. He attended college with his friend and future Disney animator Oliver Johnston. He worked on several Mickey Mouse cartoons, including "The Brave Little Tailor". He also worked on almost all of the full-length feature films up to the 1981 film "The Fox and the Hound". He was a member of the Firehouse Five Plus Two band of animators. Possibly, his greatest achievement is convincing Walt Disney to include his animation of the spaghetti dinner kiss in "Lady and the Tramp". Here are a few of the scenes and characters that would not have existed without this man:
The Seven Dwarfs Pinocchio as a puppet on strings Thumper Johnny Appleseed Lady Tremaine Queen of Hearts Captain Hook Lady and Tramp (Spaghetti kiss) Flora, Fauna, Merryweather 101 dalmatians Madam Mim Dancing Penguin Waiters Kaa and King Louie O' Malley and Duchess Sheriff of Nottingham and Stork of Devonshire Orville, Bernard, and Bianca Winnie the Pooh and Piglet Young Tod and Copper
These are just a few examples of his best work. What are your favorite scenes or characters from Frank Thomas?

Frank Thomas was a great animator. He had his hand in so many classic characters.
I own the book The Illusion of Life written by Frank and Ollie. Actually, as I type this, it's sitting on the bookshelf above my computer. This is an essential read for Disney fans and animation enthusiasts. I adamantly recommend it, though, sadly, it's out of print, and thus expensive.

Another great book by Frank and Ollie is "The Disney Villain". You can tell by the above list that Frank loved to work on the villains.

I have been wanting to read that one for a while now.
In looking at the list, it's amusing how wide his character range was. From cutesy characters like Thumper to evil characters like Lady Tremaine, he handled both extremes very well. Of course, the same can be said for the other nine old men and the newer generation of Disney animators.
