"The important thing is not how long I've been here [at Disney], but how much I've enjoyed it and what I've accomplished in all that time. When I think about my contribution to the animation that people enjoy so much, it makes me feel good."
Born: September 3, 1905 Died: October 25, 1988
After graduating High School, Larson studied journalism at the University of Utah. He edited the campus magazine and drew cartoons while in college. In 1933, he worked on a serial for a radio program. It was here that one of his friends suggested submitting his drawings to Walt Disney, who hired him as an assistant animator.
During his career, he animated many of our favorite characters. Here are a few of them: Bashful Figaro Bambi Cinderella The Caterpillar Bernard Little John Mr. Toad
One of his best contributions to Disney, however, was not in the animated films that he worked on. It was in the films that would come after his time. At the end of his career, he initiated a program, which would train new talent to continue the work of the Nine Old Men. It is through the work of this man that we can enjoy animators like Andreas Deja, Don Bluth, and Glen Keane.
What are your thoughts on this man and his work?
