Plot: In Disney's 14th feature film, Disney tells the story of Jeremiah "Jerry" Kincaid. Jerry is an admirer of the racehorse Dan Patch. One night, he goes to the barn with his grandmother to see the new lambs that have been born and falls in love with the black sheep. To Granny's dismay, she can't object to Jerry keeping the lamb as a pet. But the black sheep, Danny, is a magnet for mischief. Jerry decides, with the help of his Uncle Hiram, to take Danny to the fair and make him a champion so Granny will forget about the destruction that Danny has brought to the farm. At the fair, Danny fails to win first prize because he's got black wool instead of white. However, the judge awards Danny a special award.
Songs: "So Dear to My Heart" by Ticker Freeman and Irving Taylor, "Ol' Dan Patch", "Lavendar Blue (Dilly Dilly)", "Stick-to-it-ivity" by Eliot Daniel and Larry Morey, "It's Whatcha Do With Whatcha Got" by Don Raye and Gene DePaul, and "County Fair" by Robert Wells and Mel Torme
Cast: Burl Ives: Uncle Hiram Beulah Bondi: Granny Kincaid Harry Carey: Judge at the fair Luana Patten: Tildy Bobby Driscoll: Jeremiah Kincaid Raymond Bond: Mr. Grundy the shopkeeper
Awards: Nominated for Best Song for "Lavendar Blue (Dilly Dilly)" Bobby Driscoll also received a Juvenile Oscar for the films he made that year.
This film has several things in common with "Song of the South". It combines live action with animated scenes. The animation takes place in Jerry's scrapbook. Also, it reunites the child stars Bobby Driscoll and Luana Patten introduced in "Song of the South".

I really want to see this film. I've been wanting to see it for a long time, but never had the opportunity.
I remember back when I was in school (I don't know which level it was: elementary, middle, or high school because the school I went to combined all three, though it was probably sometime in middle/high school), I saw the VHS of this film, which I knew was quite rare at the time, sitting on a shelf. I wish I could have had the opportunity to watch it.

Just as an update of sorts: I have still yet to watch this film, but I just got it in the mail today as my first use of my Disney Movie Rewards points! That's pretty exciting. I can't wait to watch it, but I'll probably put it off 'til Sunday. Friday night and Saturday will be mostly dedicated to Halloween themed/toned movies.

I went and watched this earlier than I expected to. It was a sweet, warmhearted movie that really left me feeling nice inside. It really made me think of my grandmother. I'd like to show it to her sometime. I think she would enjoy it.
