I thought some of you might be interested in this:
Thinkway Toys has released movie accurate versions of many of the Toy Story characters, which they are calling the Definitive Collection. These are high-quality versions of Woody, Buzz, Rex, RC, and the Space Aliens (Little Green Men), each coming with a certificate of authenticity. These are really, really nice, but they are also pretty expensive. There is also a line of regular version characters which look the same, but come with a few less "movie accurate" bells and whistles.
I have always wanted a complete collection of the Toy Story gang (or at least the main characters), so I will definitely take advantage of Toy Story 3 being in theaters and the enevitable oversaturation of merchandise we are starting to see already in stores.
As far as the Definitve Collection, I will probably only get Buzz Lightyear and RC. The wings on the Buzz character actually snap out exactly the same as they do in the movie and then flash, and comes in the space ship packaging from the movies, AND they use Tim Allen's voice instead of some generic voice. The RC Car from the Definitive Collection actually comes with a working remote control, while the regular version is just a pull back car (no remote), so for those two, I will pay the extra.
As far as Woody, the Definitive Collection comes in the packaging that you see in Toy Story 2, but the toy actually does more than an old 1950's pull-string doll should be able to do, so I will stick with the regular version, which looks exactly the same and still has the pull-string with about 20 sayings... although neither version has Tom Hank's voice, for some reason.
I've already bought the regular version of Rex, which looks just like he does in the movies, and I'm really happy with it. The Definitive Collection Rex is exactly the same, but has sound... not worth the extra $30 it would have cost me.
So, anyway, you outta check those out if you ever get the chance.
