"I rarely felt confined to the animation medium. I worked as an idea man and loved creating characters, whether they be for animation or any other medium."
Marc Davis was born on March 30, 1913. After high school, he studied art in college. He was especially fascinated with the animal form, so he spent much of his time at the zoo for inspiration. He joined the Disney company in 1935, where he studied under the animators working on "Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs". His talent for animal drawings came in handy for "Bambi", where he served as a character designer and story sketch artist. He was the creative force behind Flower, Maleficent, Cruella de Vil, and Tinker Bell. When Walt built Disneyland, Davis created several inhabitants of the park's attractions including pirates and ghosts. In fact, Marc Davis is one of the two men that designed the Haunted Mansion.
So, it's my pleasure to introduce to you our next Disney Legend--Marc Davis.

I love the concept work for The Haunted Mansion and Pirates of the Caribbean. It's amazing how many iconic characters he was the source of. Maleficent and Cruella are amongst the greatest villains in Disney history.
