Our next Disney film takes us into the heart of WWII. Walt Disney produced his 8th feature film largely for military education. The film is based on the book by Major Alexander P. de Seversky. The animators depicted how long range air power could defeat the Axis forces. Major de Seversky makes an appearance and expresses his views about air power. Pieces of this film have been used in other Disney specials, such as "Man in Flight" and "Fly with Von Drake".
Release date: July 17, 1943
Directed by: Clyde Geronimi, Jack Kinney, and James Algar
Academy Award Nomination: Best Scoring of a Dramatic or Comedy Picture
I have never actually seen this film, but it is important to remember Walt Disney's contribution to the war effort.

I think it's worth getting the WWII volume of the Disney Treasures collection, On the Front Lines. This film is included.
It's been a while since I watched this, but I remember it being fascinating. I could imagine watching this when it originally came out and really being excited about the promises of long range air power.
On a related note, I love watching some of the old WWII Disney cartoons.

I love those cartoons where Donald is in the army.

I think my favorites were Education For Death and Der Furher's Face. Both are completely different in tone, but each get their point across.
Actually, when I was in high school, one of our class projects was to draw a WWII propaganda poster. Mine was based on that cartoon (Der Furher's Face).
